Mission statement

Allen Lane's commitment to sound environmental performance underpins our business operations and our corporate objectives. As a relatively young organisation, we have grown considerably over the past 6 years, taking into account the environment in which we operate and making environmental sustainability not just a priority but a firm objective of our business.

Our business is compact and measurable and suffers from no sustainability impacts. We believe that businesses' are responsible for achieving good environmental practice's and operating in a sustainable manner. We are therefore committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance as an integral and fundamental part of our business strategy and operating methods. It is our priority to encourage our clients, suppliers and all business associates to do the same. Not only is this sound commercial sense for all; it is also a matter of delivering on our duty of care towards future generations.

Policy Objectives

  1. Wholly support and comply with or exceed the requirements of current environmental legislation and codes of practice.
  2. To achieve good environmental standards in all activities including the reduction, re-use, recycling and disposal of waste.
  3. To make economic use of energy, water and transport usage to minimise waste in all aspects of the business function.
  4. To regularly assess the environmental impact resulting from business operations and to remain fully informed of recognised best practices.
  5. Apply the principles of continuous improvement in respect of air, water, noise and light pollution from our premises and reduce any impacts from our operations on the environment and local community.
  6. To communicate this Environmental Policy and Action Plan updates to all interested parties including clients, suppliers and employees, encouraging their active involvement in environmental issues.
  7. As far as possible purchase products and services that do the least damage to the environment and encourage others to do the same.
  8. Assess the environmental impact of any new processes or products we intend to introduce in advance.
  9. Ensure that all employees understand our environmental policy and confirm to the high standards it required.
  10. Address complaints about any breach of our Environmental Policy promptly and to the satisfaction of all concerned.

Policy targets for 2010

  1. Reduce ink cartridge recycling to one load per month.
  2. Reduce recycling to 12 bags per month.
  3. Reduce rubbish to 20 bags per month.
  4. Reduce electricity Kilowatt usage by 10% for year ending April 2011.
  5. For 25% of staff members to be active within in an environmental oriented charity.
  6. Ensure 100% of staff members are passionate about the environment.

Responsibility

The Founding Directors of Allen Lane hold the overall and final responsibility for the Environmental Policy with the Environmental Committee in charge of the co-ordination, implementation and monitoring of the policy throughout the organisation. The Environmental Policy and Action Plan update will be communicated through a monthly report that is generated by the EEMC. Each staff member takes responsibility for their own work area. The policy will be reviewed quarterly at Board Meetings and any updates cascaded throughout the company.

With the support of the directors the EEMC pledges to:

  1. To regularly research technical and scientific literature as it applies to the activities of the company, to keep informed on any relevant changes in legislation which may affect our practices.
  2. To research and review agreed standards in light of changes in technology and product development.
  3. As appropriate, at quarterly review, to insert any new standards required into the implementation of this policy.

In order to achieve Allen Lane's environmental targets it acknowledges and abides by its legal responsibilities as an environmentally aware employer. In the table below are the legislative acts that Allen Lane align itself with in order to ensure compliance
