The Royal Marsden Hospital is the largest and most comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, treating over 50,000 NHS and private patients every year. Along with it academic partner, The Institute of Cancer Research, the Royal Marsden provides ground-breaking research and pioneers the latest in cancer technologies and education.
The Trust is formed of two main hospitals: Chelsea and Sutton, and have various community centres dotted around the South of London and Surrey.
The Finance Manager for Research and Development is an exciting role to be joining The Royal Marsden for. You will be at the forefront of cutting edge research being conducted and dealing with internationally-acclaimed clinicians in the cancer field. The Finance Manager will be the engine of the Research and Development team, providing strategy and support to the divisional Finance Business Partner and leadership for a team of three accountants.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing financial information, advice and support to your directorate, meeting regularly with the members of the management team to ensure that the financial position is understood;
- Using financial and other information to make recommendations for improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of the directorate and of the Trust;
- Assisting the Director in the preparation of a 3-5 year financial plan, including identifying cost pressures and developing a cost improvements programme and income generation scheme;
- Providing professional development to a team of three accountants.
The successful applicant will be a finalist or qualified CCAB- accountant with a good general understanding of the NHS and its complexities and difficulties. You will come from the NHS, wider public or commercial sectors. Applicants will be able to demonstrate excellent analytical skills and will be able to deal with large volumes of complex data. You will also be able to plan and coordinate the work of your team, having negotiated agreed deadlines with the wider business. In addition, you will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to be confident and assertive, but sensitive to the wider issues of the business.
