The Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) exists to consult Londoners on how they want their city to be policed and makes sure that their voices are heard. Since it was established in 2012, it has achieved significant success namely substantially cutting costs in the MPS to reinvest in technology and the front line, disposing of underutilised buildings and assets and improving the level of service to victims of crime in the capital.

Over the coming months MOPAC will be working with the Mayoralty and the new Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police to maximise resources, and ensure transformation of London’s policing is supported by strong oversight and governance.  To help achieve this they are recruiting a Strategic Accountant to provide the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime with high quality strategic financial advice on the effective management of resources within MOPAC.

The focus of the role is to act as a finance business partner for the strategy and integrated offender management directorates, providing expert financial support to the significant portfolio of grant funding income, expenditure and commissioning activity. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting MOPAC’s internal financial management, budget setting and monitoring
  • Ensuring value for money is achieved wherever possible and to critically challenge internal and external customers
  • Advising on financial implications of processes and decisions
  • Providing financial analysis and interpretation of relevant new legislation, government initiatives and other developments

To be suitable for the role you need to be a fully qualified accountant, with the ability to see the bigger picture, able to inspire staff and delivery partners to engage with the long term vision and purpose of MOPAC. Previous experience of managing budgets alongside planning and managing projects is essential as is significant experience of business case appraisals.
