The Royal Marsden Hospital is the largest and most comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, treating over 50,000 NHS and private patients every year.  Along with its academic partner, The Institute of Cancer Research, the Royal Marsden undertakes ground-breaking research and pioneers the latest in cancer technologies and education.

The Trust is formed of two main hospitals: Chelsea and Sutton, as well as various community centres spread throughout the South of London and Surrey.

The Head of Costing role is a rare and exciting opportunity to combine real technical expertise with commercial and strategic input into the operation of the Trust.  Reporting to the Associate Director for Financial Strategy, and working closely with operations, clinical and information teams you will be responsible for leading the Costing team and development of our PLICS (Patient Level Information Costing System) /costing data and reporting for use in strategic decision making.  The PLICS data is critical in the support of trust strategy, business cases, contract and price negotiations.

Notably, this is already an award winning team and key costing roadmap partner of NHS Improvement.

The successful applicant will be a qualified CCAB accountant or equivalent, with a strong track record of achievement and improvement, both of your own skills and those of the team around you. You will need a significant background in costing, preferably gained in an NHS acute environment, although first rate stakeholder management and communication skills plus a strong commercial aptitude could make for an alternative profile.  You will, however, still need to demonstrate an impressive understanding of the NHS financial processes, landscape and pressures.  Owing to the busy, dynamic environment, you must be a self-starter who likes to rise to the challenge.
