This is an exciting opportunity to join the ICR’s Research Finance team, and help our research teams to make best use of their external research funding. The Research Accountants will be part of an effective Research Finance management and compliance service to Research Team Leaders.

This will include assisting in the provision of critical management information to Heads of Division and Research Team leaders on externally funded activities, and supporting them to adhere to key financial controls and processes in the administration of their awards.

The Research Accountants will also help improve processes and ways of working within the Research Finance team, to drive efficiency and maximise impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain key financial schedules for cost sharing with research partner organisations, including the Royal Marsden Hospital, liaising with Senior Research Accountants and Research Budget Holders on queries and undertaking corrections required.
  • Maintain invoicing and income accrual schedules for assigned grants, to ensure that income is correctly recognised and recovered on timely basis.
  • Assist in the provision of grant costing information for grant applications.  This will involve supporting Senior Grant Accountants in ensuring that applications  meet ICR policies around research governance and overhead recovery.
  • Undertake reconciliations of external grant income and expenditure, taking corrective action where instructed by Senior Research Accountants to ensure expenditure is correctly accounted for in line with financial terms and conditions compliance.
  • To assist Senior Research Accountants in the completion of external funding body financial reports and returns in line with funder requirements.

Requirements:

  • Training for a CCAB qualification
  • An interest in and commitment to accounting work within a scientific research environment
  • Use of computer and accounting packages including Microsoft Office including intermediate / advanced excel
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
  • Good written communication skills
  • A confidence when dealing with difficult situations
