Redbridge Council is situated in the eastern part of London, and provides services to approximately 297,000 residents. Redbridge is currently transforming rapidly across the organisation to ensure that the services they provide match the local community’s needs, as well as being dynamic and responsive to the demands of the future. Like all public sector organisations they have faced challenging times but are still committed to increasing fairness and responding to the aspirations of the Borough, improving the quality of life and civic pride amongst communities and empowering communities to help shape the Borough and the services delivered.

These are exciting and challenging times embraced by a progressed Finance team moving into a business partnering model, ensuring finance is adding value at every opportunity. To support this they are recruiting a number of roles across the finance service. They are looking for innovative individuals passionate about moving away from traditional accounting and towards professional services, quality assurance, matrix working and accelerating pace. It is certainly a time of great opportunity – and the roles promise a brand new challenge with many rewards.  Included in the roles to be recruited is the Head of Corporate Finance.

The Head of Corporate Finance will be key to driving through Council wide transformation and continuing to build resilience and financial stability.  It will operate in a leadership role, both within Finance and across the Council, overseeing all aspects of corporate financial management. The role will provide advice to the Council both from a corporate perspective and by working with the Senior Managers, Corporate Management Team and Members of the Council. Other key responsibilities will include: -

  • Driving improvement and leading the enhancement of processes enabling the delivery of the Council’s priorities.
  • Promoting and developing a culture that supports a Self Service approach to service delivery.
  • Overseeing the coordination and the production of the Council’s Statement of Accounts, acting as a key contact for the external auditor.
  • Providing leadership and guidance on the medium term financial plan, ensuring the robust delivery of all necessary financial modelling.

To be suitable for the role you need to be an ambitious and focused CCAB (or CIMA) qualified candidate with proven experience of driving through transformation and change.  Exposure to financial management and medium term financial planning processes within a large and complex organisation, and the ability to influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders is also essential.
