On 24 November 2016 the Design Museum opened in its new home in Kensington. The new museum hosts an influential and engaging programme of exhibitions, including monographic and thematic shows on every aspect of contemporary design and architecture. One year and almost 800,000 visitors later, the museum is looking for an exceptional Head of Finance to lead the finance function at the museum. The finance and operations functions at the museum are crucial to its success at Kensington as they will help to achieve one of its five strategic objectives; to ensure the museum has a sustainable and efficient operational model. They underpin the museum’s vision, aims and strategic plan.

The Design Museum is looking for a high calibre and motivated Head of Finance to provide high quality support and leadership to the organisation.

Reporting into the Director of Finance and Operations, this is a key role, responsible for the financial sustainability of the organisation, leading on financial controls, financial management, and all financial planning and forecasting.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Director of Finance and Operations in delivering the business plan and financial strategy;
  • Being responsible for maintaining robust financial controls, efficient financial processing, accurate financial reporting , proactive cash management and strong management of tax liabilities;
  • Leading on the annual cycle of planning, budgeting and forecasting;
  • Supporting the museum’s Finance and Operations Committee; supporting the Board with core compliance issues;
  • Managing a medium sized team

The successful candidate must be a professionally qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with a driven and proactive approach and robust technical skills from the Charity, Commercial or wider Public Sector. You will have a strong sense of commercial acumen and an analytical mind-set. You will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and develop staff that you manage and build rapport with a range of finance and non-finance persons across the organisation. Enthusiasm for the sector is a must.
