Across the globe, an estimated eight million children live in orphanages and other institutions. At least 80% are not orphans and have at least one living parent. Separated from families, they are deprived of the close, loving adult engagement a family provides; their physical, intellectual and emotional development is harmed; and they are exposed to significant risk of abuse and neglect. These are some of the world’s most disadvantaged children.

At Lumos, an international NGO founded by J.K. Rowling and the UK 2015 Charity of the Year, we believe this is a solvable problem. We have developed a model of ‘deinstitutionalisation’ to support countries to reform child care and protection systems based on institutions and replace them with health, education and social care services which keep families together in the community.

As Lumos expands globally, we need a range of skilled professionals to work in our diverse and international team to champion the rights of all children to grow up within a loving family. We are now looking for a motivated individual to play a key role in our Finance team.

We are looking for a confident and motivated finance professional with robust technical skills to provide high quality support to the Finance team to ensure future growth, stability and success.  This is a high profile role which supports financial decision making by collecting, analysing, investigating and reporting financial data.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the maintenance and development of financial controls, procedures and policy;
  • Producing group statutory accounts and monthly financial reporting  managing the monthly Royalty income schedule and supporting payroll management;
  • Leading on the completion of VAT and Gift Aid returns;
  • Leading the relationship with the bank and external auditors
  • Line management of a Finance Officer

The successful candidate will be fully qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) from a Charity or wider Public Sector background. You will have robust technical skills, an in-depth knowledge of Charity SORP and familiarity with UK and International tax laws. You will be highly organised with a hands-on yet flexible approach. You are likely to have experience within a growing international organisation and working knowledge of Sun Systems. Enthusiasm for the sector is a must.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a high calibre finance profession looking to make an impact in the sector and will provide an excellent platform in your career.
