Business Managers & Recruitment Consultants

Allen Lane Financial Recruitment is a market leader in the Public and Not for Profit Sector market in London and the South East. Established in May 2004, Allen Lane achieved a turnover of £4.5 million in their second year of trading and the current financial year will exceed £10 million. 10 people currently work for Allen Lane and the least experienced Consultant has 5 years recruitment experience. This is one of the major reasons we have grown so rapidly - we employ highly experienced, passionate, self-motivated and ambitious people who really want to succeed because they are naturally driven. In addition, our greater experience, determined commitment to the highest levels of customer service and plain-spoken, candid approach with clients and candidates has differentiated us from our competition.

Following this promising start Allen Lane is now looking to recruit high quality individuals to play an essential and visible role in maturing the company further.

Allen Lane prides itself in being different. Our honesty is integral to our growth and development. It is not just our candidates and clients that we adopt this approach with but also with the people we are looking to attract. We recognise that there are pros and cons to everything - including working for Allen Lane and as such, some of our consultants have given their views below:

The good

  • Joining Allen Lane at an early upbeat stage - thriving, successful young consultancy based on foundations that everyone believes in
  • Trust - working with people who you get on with in an environment which is good fun, competitive and where everyone is pulling in the same direction
  • Unlimited financial rewards - basic salary reflective of experience and a commission structure which is recognized by 'Recruitment to Recruitment' companies as one of the most generous in the industry
  • The Directors of Allen Lane keep you challenged - endless scope for progression/new opportunities and the chance to manage others
  • Personal satisfaction - Allen Lane has done well but are still regularly the 'underdog' so if you succeed the single biggest factor is you
  • Work life balance - everyone works very hard but don't work to a strict clock watching day plan. The culture is mature and professional and the opposite of some micro management focused recruitment firms
  • Good social scene - recent trips to Amsterdam and Alton Towers

The less good

  • More recruiting, less management for some - a feature of Allen Lane will be that you will always be recruiting
  • Hard slog - first 3 to 4 months will be hard as you will be highly visible and you will need to get your head down and graft
  • Claustrophobic - it is more intense occasionally working in a smaller office
  • Less developed in terms of volume - we believe in quality over quantity and as a result often have to invest more time than other companies ensuring we are finding the stronger candidates in the market
  • It will be easier to succeed in a larger consultancy
  • Less infrastructure - often we are doing things for the first time and need to start from scratch
  • Performance visibility - Allen Lane has high expectations in terms of achievement and won't hide from this, sometimes you can hide a bad couple of months in a larger firm which goes unnoticed

If you have 3 to 5 years + recruitment experience in any discipline and would like to work for a highly successful, flourishing recruitment consultancy which takes pride in what they do please contact one of the Directors - James Allen on 07795097730 (jamesallen@allenlane.co.uk) or Ben Lane on 07956839272 (benlane@allenlane.co.uk).
