With its 136 year old history, the Charity for Civil Servants is the occupational charity for all 450,000+ people currently employed in the Civil Service, and around one million former and retired colleagues. It is an independent charity which provides a range of support to all civil servants, past and present, throughout their lives with whatever problems they may be facing.

We are now seeking a highly capable and values driven Director of Finance and Corporate Services to join us as a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, to play a pivotal role within our organisation.

Across the working and retired civil service community our mission is to help people overcome life’s challenges and thrive. Everything we do as an organisation underpins the Charity’s vision of a supportive community in which everyone has the chance to live their life to the full. The Charity offers lifelong practical, financial and emotional support, advice and guidance that is confidential, impartial and free at the point of access. Last year people came to us for help over 97,000 times and we gave out more than £1.6m in financial assistance for people in need. Everything we do as an organisation underpins the Charity’s vision of a supportive community in which everyone has the chance to live their life to the full.

With a broad remit and wide range of responsibilities, we are looking for an excellent Director of Finance and Corporate Services to give a clear and authoritative lead across all Finance, IT, HR, Facilities and Governance aspects of the Charity’s operation, managing risk and helping to guide the organisation through a significant period of change and development.

The successful candidate will be fully CCAB qualified, with the ability to:

  • Operate successfully at board level to shape strategic direction
  • Support and advise the CEO and other Directors in the leadership team
  • Rapidly win the full confidence of Trustees and everyone in the wider Charity

As you might imagine, we are looking for a Director with the necessary intellectual and analytical rigour for such an important role, but also for someone who is as comfortable leading, managing and communicating with people, as they are with handling numbers. So the successful candidate will be a positive and outward-looking leader who naturally inspires confidence, motivates others and who enjoys working as part of a team.

The Charity’s support has a dramatic impact on peoples’ lives when they most need it and without our help, so many more people in our community would be at risking of losing hope.  Please do take the time to find out more about us. If our work inspires you and if you believe you have the skills and experience to play a key part as the Charity’s Director of Finance and Corporate Services, we very much look forward to receiving your application.
