A new and exciting role at Cambridgeshire County Council for a financial professional looking to aid and promote conservation and sustainable environmental practice within Cambridgeshire.
Cambridgeshire County Council is looking to recruit a technical and commercial accountant on a full or part-time basis, to provide specialist financial support to a range of contracts and services, and develop new innovations and investments, particularly in the areas of environment and green energy. This role would therefore be perfect for a finance professional with strong technical skills and a passion for the environment.
This role will contribute to the Council developing and building its understanding of how to value environmental capital and services such as carbon reduction and biodiversity. Finance professionals can make a significant contribution to the scale and pace of delivering a low carbon future – if you are passionate about climate change and finance, this is your opportunity to work with services to help create the business cases for a greener low carbon Cambridgeshire.
The Council is also making several investments across a wide array of council services to improve outcomes with complex business cases that this postholder may need to play some part in. We are looking for someone who can develop business cases for future investments including identifying and exploring risks and undertaking sensitivity analysis, as well as assist with procurement and implementation.
The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate they have the appropriate experience and skills to develop complex business cases and identify funding opportunities as well as provide financial advice on contracts. The era of valuing the environment in decision making is now with us. Carbon and green accounting are growing areas of interest for the Council. You may not yet have all the skills in this area but a willingness to grow and strengthen the Council’s capacity will be important.
To be suitable for the role applicants must be a qualified accountant, or AAT qualified / part-qualified accountant with substantial experience.
Flexible working is encouraged with this role and the post holder can work from alternative offices or fully from home. The job will be based at Alconbury Weald / Huntingdon. A relocation allowance may be payable in line with Council policy for anyone wishing to relocate to the local area.
