Salary: £60,000 - £65,000 per annum
This is a really exciting time to join The London Library as Director of Finance and Administration. Founded in 1841, it is one of the world’s leading literary institutions.
From its opening on the 3rd May 1841, this haven for reading, writing and thinking quickly became a beloved home for some of the greatest names in literature: Charles Dickens, Charles Darwin, George Eliot, Arthur Conan Doyle, Bram Stoker, Virginia Woolf, EM Forster, T S Eliot, Agatha Christie and Harold Pinter amongst many others were all members. 4 Poets Laureate and 10 Nobel prize-winners have roamed its bookshelves for inspiration in the past and today, nearly 7,000 members – including some of the most familiar names in the literary world – find the Library’s continually expanding resources invaluable.
This is an exciting time to join The London Library as we implement our strategic plan to 2022/23. We want to become much more widely known and to share our incredible collection and all the other benefits of Library membership with as many people as possible. This will be crucial in establishing a sustainable operating model for the Library and ensure that the Library continues to inspire and support many future generations of readers, writers and thinkers. The Director of Finance and Administration will have a vital part to play in developing and leading the implementation of the initiatives that will deliver these goals.
The Director of Finance and Administration is responsible for the management of the Library’s HR, IT and Building & Facilities functions. You will provide sound management and administration of the Library’s financial affairs while planning and implementing the changes needed to reflect its new strategic priorities.
The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant, and will need to demonstrate the following:
- Proven experience at Head of Finance or equivalent level gained in the not for profit sector (or wider public sector)
- A positive, driven and personable approach
- Proven ability to initiate, follow through and complete projects, especially projects delivering substantial change
