Contract Management Officer
Sector: Local Government
Date posted: 01/08/2020
Salary: £33,759 - 47,724 per annum
Westminster City Council is the proud custodian of the heart of the nation’s capital – we host some of the most vibrant communities, from the world-renowned Soho to richly diverse Church Street. We are home to some of the world’s most iconic features including Oxford Street, UK Government, the Royal Household and the bustling West End, and attract a million visitors a day to our city. We house over 50,000 businesses that sustain more than 700,000 jobs.
Our City for All vision is to provide world class services to the residents and communities we serve. We will do this by creating a greener and cleaner city, vibrant communities and one of the best connected, most technologically advanced cities in the world.
Join us as a Contract Management Officer, and you’ll help to deliver this vision by ensuring we get the best possible value from our contracts and supplier relationships.
We’ve developed a new framework for contract management – that’s a new vision for what best practice looks like, and a set of policies, procedures and practices that will help us achieve it. This role will work in our new Supplier Management team, which is responsible for developing best practice in contract management and working with teams across the whole council to adopt it.
There’s a lot of work to be done – we procure a wide range of goods, works and services across £700m of spend, hundreds of contacts and thousands of suppliers – so this is a busy and high energy environment. For the right person, there’s an opportunity to learn, thrive and develop – with plenty of potential for progression.
You’ll have an awareness of the public sector context for contract management but, more importantly, you’ll have a passion for helping the council develop a more commercial approach. Not afraid of a challenge or taking on something new, you’ll thrive when working outside your comfort zone and supporting your team and the council to do things differently.
You could be working now in the public, private or third sector. What matters most is that you bring energy, drive and a commitment to achieving the council’s goals. You’ll need to be proactive – supporting colleagues to deliver a fast-paced programme of change and not afraid to get involved in new things. You’ll be eager to learn and be able to show that you’ve made the most of the opportunities you’ve had so far.
A great place to grow
We know that the best results are generated when our people have the freedom to flourish. It’s how we set standards that others seek to emulate. So you can expect to enjoy agile working and targeted personal and professional development. We work hard to create a progressive and diverse working environment, including benefits like shared parental leave and flexible working opportunities.
