But the Council recognises that there are areas to develop and has high ambitions for improving provision for its residents particularly with respect to addressing housing need. The Council’s Strategy has four key focuses to help make these improvements. These are sustaining economic development, ensuring financial stability, meeting the housing needs of its residents and providing a clean and safe environment.

To help with this and to ensure financial sustainability and improve economic development across the region they are recruiting for two roles including the Technical Accountant.

The Technical Accountant will support the Chief Accountant in providing a range of technical accountancy and financial management services to the Council’s corporate management. They will be focused on producing the final accounts and maintaining accurate collection fund and fixed asset information. Key responsibilities include;

  • Assisting in the continuous development and adaptation of the team
  • Providing financial support when required including appraisals and reviews
  • Leading on the final accounts process
  • Completing the relevant statutory financial returns, including Whole of Government Accounts
  • Maintaining a robust and complete Fixed Asset register
  • Monitoring of the Collection Fund

To be suitable for the role you need to be fully qualified with excellent technical skills, with exposure to playing a lead role during the close down process. Previous experience within a local authority setting is ideal, but application from those in the wider public sector will be considered.
