The London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS) is a unique and complex emergency service network serving a diverse population and responding to 1.8 million emergency calls per year. In addition they are the current provider for NHS 111 / Integrated Urgent Care in both South East London and North East London. Demands on urgent and emergency care providers across the capital are increasing, and the Trust is developing new innovative services to provide care closer to home for patients. This has required the Trust to evolve its operating model and a number of exciting opportunities have arisen through this restructure.
The Head of Strategic Finance is a key member of the finance department who will report into the Financial Controller and support them in leading the finance function.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Leading on the development of the 5 year financial model and annual financial plan drawing together all financial and non-financial elements.
- Forward planning for updated financial / accounting guidance from NHS Improvement, Department of Health or Treasury including updates on accounting standards and scenario modelling.
- Translate the Trust’s strategic objectives into best practice applications which realise clear, costed and assigned financial targets to ensure the Trust meets financial plan.
- Lead the appraisal of in-year business cases, service development proposals and tenders contracted out.

The successful candidate will be a professionally qualified accountant who has experience of working in healthcare, either within a Trust environment, a consultancy firm or the NHS regulator. Having experience of financial modelling, leading on projects and working with a diverse range of stakeholders is essential. You will have the confidence and gravitas to bring people within the organisation together and have the experience to lead on projects that impact the wider organisation.
