Working at UK Sport is all about how we can inspire the nation through Olympic and Paralympic success. We know the power that sport has and we want to deliver success at the Olympic and Paralympic games that the whole county can feel proud about and motivated by.

One of the key strategic priorities for UK Sport is to invest in Sport NGBs and other partner organisations to support them to develop their own World Class Programmes which can enable athletes to maximise their potential in a safe and supportive environment.

Through DCMS and Lottery funding, UK Sport has helped to support a highly successful high performance system and we have an ambitious strategy to ensure this is sustained in the long term.

To do this we need to ensure we are world class in everything we do and we need to ensure every penny of our funding is informed, protected and guided in the most optimal way to get the best outcomes and make the biggest impact.

Our Sport Investment team role is to ensure the highest standards of grant best practice are delivered and the team looks to do this by proactively guiding and supporting the NGBs to set clear financial funding requirements which are aligned to their performance strategies. Then, through regular meetings and conversations we help support the finance contacts to analyse the financial effectiveness of their awards and look for opportunities with them to do things better.

How we add value as a team:

  • By being trusted experts in our field
  • Having efficient systems and processes
  • Capturing and analysing system-wide data to help inform and provide impactful insights
  • Looking to encourage excellent financial practises across the sports system we invest in

We Do This Through Living Our Values

  • Working together – We work closely with our internal and external stakeholders and engage in a respectful, considerate and collaborative way
  • Openness and Integrity – we are objective and transparent and have the confidence to challenge all issues in a sensitive way
  • Committed to Excellence – We think clearly and look ahead, we know our role and that we need to play to our strengths individually with courage and determination to achieve success as a team

How you will fit in:

The Sport Manager role is integral to our team. You will play a key role in evaluating financial submissions, leading our monitoring process and building strong connections across the sports system.

Your Skills, Interests And What You Can Bring:

Firstly, we want you to be as excited by the challenge to win Olympic and Paralympic medals as we are. You need to be ready to analyse and talk about sport investments, athletes’ performances and results across a wide range of sports in a very detailed manner.

This role has a high degree of responsibility. The successful candidate will therefore have a strong educational background and demonstrate the ability to balance multiple priorities.

You will also have proven experience of managing grants which deliver value for money and forecasting need effectively.

You will need influential communication skills in order to engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. This is most likely to be virtually in the current circumstances athough travel to face to face meetings may be possible at some point.

Finally, it would be beneficial if you have a passion for sport as well, experience of working in the sports industry combined with strong financial and management accounting as well as experience of business partnering.
