Director of Finance and Resources
Date posted: 12/03/2021
Salary: £65,000 - £68,000 per annum
Greenwich Hospital is a unique 325 year old Crown Charity. The Hospital provides charitable support including annuities, sheltered housing and education to serving and retired personnel of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines and their dependants. We also are the parent organisation for the Royal Hospital School, a high quality co-educational boarding school in Suffolk. The Hospital’s income comes from a £260m property portfolio based in Greenwich, London, Suffolk and Northumberland and a £100m financial investment portfolio.
We are looking for a forward thinking and engaged Director of Finance to join the organisation at an exciting time. You will be central to the delivery of our vision, working closely with the chief executive officer to help shape our future and implement our new strategy.
With an asset base of around £350m, Greenwich Hospital’s financial future is secure. But that does not mean that we’re not looking for ways to grow and develop. We are in the process now of developing our new post-Covid investment strategy, as well as reviewing our operational plans to achieve it. The Finance function has been overhauled in the last year, and the new Director will benefit from that work and be able to take it further. Despite our long legacy, we are not afraid to use technology, and have been bringing in a range of new systems to help drive forward efficiencies, and strengthen our governance.
The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant, and will need to demonstrate:
- Proven experience in a leadership role;
- Experience operating at Board level and ability to work in collaboration with Trustees/equivalents and colleagues;
- Understanding and experience of strategic risk management, finance audit and internal controls as well as financial planning.
- Comfort inputting on wider resource management questions.
This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual. We are seeking a confident, dynamic and engaging individual with excellent communication skills and confidence to operate at the highest levels. Not-for-Profit, property and government-regulatory experience would all be an advantage. This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual. Please see the job description for a fuller list of responsibilities. If you feel you have the skills and experience to succeed in this role we very much look forward to hearing from you.
