A fantastic opportunity has arisen within one of our central government clients for a lead category manager with expertise in the construction market.

Main responsibilities

  • To support the Deputy Head of Procurement and Commercial Lead in the delivery of cost and efficiency savings across the programme, by strategically analysing current spend information and financial data as well as undertaking category market research to develop procurement strategies ahead of a tender.
  • To drive the delivery of procurement for Infrastructure & Construction spend across the organisation
  • To build and promote relationships, relating to Infrastructure & Construction, their suppliers which represent value for money.
  • To provide excellent strategic procurement advice to the relevant departments whilst acting in business partnership as a member of the extended leadership team
  • To provide quality advice and guidance to internal customers on all aspects of procurement processes
  • To lead complex projects managing multi – disciplined teams to achieve common outcome to provide guidance and supervision to the procurement officers assigned to support projects
  • To ensure contract compliance across the organisation, challenging inappropriate processes, and through providing support and training for the local user community
  • To meet customer requirements by demonstrating best value for money, through compliance with category priorities and contracts, and by actively managing the marketplace through development of key strategies for supplier and contract management, exploiting technology as appropriate.
  • Setting up and/or working with established user groups/networks to evaluate products and fast track rationalisation decisions government agencies to maximise purchasing power, and to ensure framework/national agreementsreflect the requirements of the organisation
  • Ensure key relationships with other purchasing professionals are developed, providing mentoring/training as required to enhance professional expertise, supporting the embedding of change management to enable key management decision making.
  • To identify, develop, report on and manage key performance indicators to ensure continual improvement and innovation in service delivery.

Skills & Experience required

  • Degree or equivalent MCIPS qualification
  • Demonstrate experience at delivering savings to an organisation through effective category management
  • Must have in depth OJEU legislation expertise
  • Experience within Infrastructure & Construction as a category
  • In depth knowledge of JCT/NEC types of contracts
