Central to the success of this is the finance department, which influences right across the Council. The department was recently brought back in house and restructured to help with our ambitious plans to improve the financial management of the authority. As we rebuild the department, the focus is on the improvement of the services we offer, providing more financial data analysis to decision-makers in those services and supporting non-financial services to become more confident around managing their budgets.

To ensure we attract and keep talented individuals, we are committed to developing from within, supporting staff through internal training and mentoring, as well as supporting external professional training. It is an exciting time for the service and will present potential employees with the opportunities to develop their skills and experience as well as having a positive impact on the local community. These positions will initially be remote working in line with current government guidance. However, when government guidelines change in the future these roles will work in a hybrid way, with an expectation that, where they wish to, staff can still spend the majority of their time working remotely.

We are recruiting 3 Senior Management Accountants to help develop relationships and provide business partnering support to Senior Management within our services including Adults & Children and Place & Corporate. Key responsibilities will include;

  • Providing financial advice and support to deputy directors, head of service and other managers
  • Reviewing reports, policies, procedures and other proposals for financial issues
  • Analysing and advising on proposals for spending, savings or other service and corporate initiatives
  • Having oversight of budget monitoring in service departments, including developing financial data analytics where appropriate and challenge where necessary

To be suitable for the role you need to be either a part qualified accountant or studying towards an accounting qualification, with significant experience of producing management accounts in a complex environment. The ability to influence and challenge is also essential.
