A Local Authority client are about to embark on a variety of projects and due to capacity issues they have an urgent need for an Interim Junior Project Manager to take on some of the work from the  project lead so can add capacity to deliver the programme.

The ideal candidate for this role would be a dynamic, astute and technically competent project manager with demonstrable experience of most/all stages of a project lifecycle. You will need stakeholder management/influencing and presentation skills and be fully conversant with structured project management methodologies.


  • To carry out and ensure compliance of project management responsibilities and accountabilities for all resources within span of remit – budget, people, assets
  • To regularly review and monitor project progress with the appointed Project Leaders against the programme financial and output targets, taking corrective action as necessary to ensure they are on target. Recording the reviews and advising the Line Manager as required on progress being made and any corrective action taken to ensure strategic key goals are achieved.
  • To ensure that projects as a whole produce the required deliverables to the defined standard of quality within the agreed constraints.
  • Ensure that project management documentation is maintained to appropriate standards, including: project plans, risk, issue and change logs, correspondence, research etc.
  • To ensure information is organised in a systematic fashion to enable auditors/inspectors to perform an audit trail through the development of the initiative.
  • To carry out specific requirements identified in the Environmental Planning service plan and ‘my performance’ objectives to ensure delivery of clearly defined outcomes within agreed resources.
  • Critically appraise the quality of own/others practice and challenge this within identified forums.
  • To maintain a sound understanding and awareness of new and emerging project/ programme management methodologies, associated tools and techniques. To ensure that project governance and management processes reflect best industry practice.


  • A relevant degree and/or alternative professional qualification, or alternative by experience.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint knowledge and experience of using at an intermediate level. An understanding of other software applications in order to identify their potential in supporting and developing this function.
  • Project Management experience including people and resource management.
  • Professional accreditation in e.g. Prince 2 methodology would be desirable, and must show evidence of continuous professional development.
  • An appropriate level of project management experience and an ability to communicate clearly and persuasively both orally and in writing to a wide range of different individuals and groups with particular reference to negotiating skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing projects in a complex environment
