Are you ready to join a Government department undergoing an exciting and significant Digital Transformation? Cabinet Office are seeking the appointment of a permanent Delivery Manager to help support the ambition to make UK Government digital services the best in the world.

The Role

The role is part of the Technology Pillar which provides, maintains and supports the IT services (infrastructure, telephony, network, WiFi, end-user devices, cloud capability and software) relied upon by the entire Cabinet Office.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Technology Delivery team, to lead key infrastructure-related projects to transform our internal services. The Delivery team uses a hybrid of Agile and Waterfall methods to apply the best approach to delivery projects successfully.

As Delivery Manager, you will manage multiple agile projects, for a specific infrastructure-related product or transformation via a multi-disciplinary, highly skilled digital team. You’ll be adept at delivering complex technical projects, breaking down barriers for your team and both planning at a higher level and getting into the detail to make things happen when needed.

Defining project needs and feeding these into the programme/portfolio process will enable the resource to be appropriately allocated. You will be core to decisions that build high performing teams, where people are excited about the work they are undertaking.

Main responsibilities

  • Working closely with Network Operation and Cloud services teams to deliver technical projects.
  • Use the appropriate agile methodology, tools, and techniques, adapting the approach to deliver outcomes & iterating frequently
  • Work with the Head of Delivery, Senior Delivery Manager and Business Analysts to define the roadmap for any given product and translate this into user stories.
  • Lead the collaborative, dynamic planning process – prioritising the work that needs to be done against the capacity and capability of the team
  • Build teams, working with Business Operations to ensure your teams are adequately resourced
  • Ensure your teams are motivated, collaborating and working well
  • Identify obstacles and help the team to overcome them
  • Managing and addressing risks, issues, and dependencies
  • Clearly communicate and report plans to the team, as well as technical and non-technical plans to stakeholders and progress using recognised agile practices.
  • Actively participating in the Delivery Manager community, sharing and re-applying skills and knowledge and bringing in best practice.

To be an effective Delivery Manager, it’s essential that you have:

  • Proven experience in delivering infrastructure-related and/or technology projects and products
  • Proven experience using a range of Agile and Lean tools and techniques and identifying delivery methods to be used.
  • Proven experience balancing multiple priorities and dealing with ambiguity
  • Experience in matrix-managing multi-disciplinary teams, working independently and with other teams.
  • Experience in managing products and services through the different phases of a project life cycle.
  • Experience of creating the right environment for a team , motivating and managing the delivery flow for the team.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels to effectively ​​facilitate difficult discussions within the project team and with a diverse range of senior stakeholders.
