A County Council in the East of England is currently recruiting for an Accountant to support Children’s Services. The role has the option of being home based, with an occasional need to be in the office, this is likely to be only once every couple of months. They are also happy for people to be office based or hybrid working.

The Accountant reports in to a Senior Accountant and is responsible for managing a team to act as a trusted Business Partner and ensure the co-ordination of the development and preparation of the Children’s Services revenue budget. The key responsibilities include:

  • Providing financial advice, training, and guidance to all stakeholders on financial issues and processes
  • supervising and co-ordinating the departmental accounting functions relevant to budget preparation, monitoring, and accounts closure
  • Managing the budget monitoring process and providing quality assurance of all forecasts of income and expenditure within Childrens Services
  • Ensuring that Value For Money is always delivered and that services are provided to a high standard

To be suitable for the role you need to be fully qualified with previous experience of supporting budget holders, providing advice and challenge when needed. Previous experience of supervising staff is desirable but not essential. Applications from outside of Local Government are actively encouraged.
