Director of Group Financial Operations

Discipline: Finance

Sector: NHS

Location: East Midlands

Type: Permanent

Date posted: 16/05/2022

Start: ASAP

Duration: Permanent

Salary: Band 9

An exciting, senior level opportunity has arisen for a candidate with real NHS finance expertise to support the transformative development of this unique organisation.

University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group was formed in July 2021 as a result of a collaboration between Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust (NGH) and Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KGH).  Its purpose is to deliver benefits over and above what could be achieved as individual organisations.  Furthermore, working in conjunction with both the University of Leicester and the University of Northampton brings additional advantages through cutting edge research and treatments.

The Director of Group Financial Operations is a new role and will be a pivotal member of the Group Chief Finance Officer’s leadership team, supporting the achievement of the Group’s aims and delivery of improvements in effective management, development and operation of internal financial controls, processes, policies and procurement.

With two direct reports, in the Head of Group Financial Services and the Head of Group Procurement, the post will lead a strong team across both Kettering and Northampton General Hospitals, and will be responsible for all aspects of financial services, treasury management, financial governance, procurement, and preparation and delivery of annual audited accounts.

A key purpose of the role is to provide leadership and direction to the collaboration of teams across the Group, to ensure resilience, consistency, and value.  In fulfilling the role, the individual will proactively work closely and in partnership with Board members, external auditors, internal auditors and anti-crime.

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with significant post qualification experience operating at a strategic level in a complex organisational environment, preferably a NHS acute trust, or close equivalent.  In addition to extensive professional finance experience, an expert knowledge of financial reporting in a healthcare environment and a deep understanding of the implications of the changing NHS financial regime will be important.  You should be able to demonstrate experience in leading teams through NHS accounts preparation, hold a strong understanding of the application of financial treatments and have a full appreciation of modern procurement methods and regulations. You will possess first rate leadership and communication skills in addition to accomplished people management skills.

For the right candidate this role offers an excellent chance to step into a group level position and help the organisation develop consistency, closer working and systems that support their collaboration. This, in turn, will lay the key foundations for the organisational resilience that will ultimately benefit the community across Northamptonshire.
