We are looking for a collaborative, results driven Deputy Director of Finance to provide leadership and operational management of the School’s finance, planning and procurement functions. This key post holder will also have the opportunity to work closely with the Director of Finance and Planning to support on the development of the University’s new financial strategy.

Key requirements:

To work closely with the Directorate’s Heads of Service to ensure sound financial management and planning of the School’s operations.

Management of a team of up to 6 across finance, planning and procurement.

Responsible for the finance, planning and procurement functions including overseeing effective financial planning, timely financial reporting, query resolution and efficient day to day financial and procurement operations and processes.

To contribute towards wider strategic decisions, including the development and delivery of a Financial Strategy that supports the School’s 5-year Strategic Plan and ensures the short and long-term financial sustainability of the School.

To ensure that the School complies with its statutory and regulatory financial requirements

Deputise as required for the Director of Finance & Planning.

SOAS recently published its audited accounts for financial year 2020-21 showing continued strengthening of its financial position, due to the continued actions taken to monitor costs and the strong student recruitment achieved in September 2021. This is a key appointment, and we are seeking a CCAB qualified or equivalent accountant who has successfully managed a finance function in a complex organisation. A motivational leadership style that promotes staff development and facilitates collaborative working within and across teams whilst driving a culture of high performance is essential.
