The finance department is currently going through a restructure to help develop and improve an already effective and passionate finance team. The restructure is built around development, growth and career progression to ensure we create a high performing finance team that can provide even more support to the council and benefit our residents. The next step of the restructure is to really embed the model that we’ve implemented, ensuring we are challenging the organisation to maximise the delivery of services and have an even bigger impact for our residents.

The Deputy Director Corporate Finance is a member of the council’s senior management team responsible for leading and developing a high performing team overseeing Corporate Finance, Treasury & Pensions and Finance Systems and Banking. Key responsibilities will include;

  • Leading in the development and implementation of the Council’s financial strategy, ensuring sustainability over the medium term
  • Working closely with all stakeholders to ensure best use of limited financial resources, providing the strategic financial advice, insight, intelligence and support needed
  • Advising on investment and funding strategies including investment risk and performance
  • Driving positive cultural change, embodying and promoting the values and behaviours of the council and empowering staff to reach their full potential

To be suitable for the role you need to be a fully qualified accountant with proven experience of leading high performing teams in complex organisations. Practical experience of the final accounts process and extensive knowledge of local government finance and the Council’s budget processes are also essential.
